Endurance

I think we all like starting something new, we are always very enthusiastic when we start. Training for a running course for example, getting on a diet, or when we start with a blog.

I started blogging more than 50 blogs ago, posting my "Friday thoughts" week after week, whatever I have on the agenda. As if it was an article I am paid for to write...

This means endurance. Long-term consistency beats short-term intensity. This is when you read about it what truly successful people excel at — staying committed when they get bored, lonely, unmotivated, or discouraged.

I started to train again 3 months ago. Going to the gym at least 3 times a week, whatever on my agenda, whether I am sick, tired, exhausted, unmotivated, or just bored. Endurance will be the only possibility to reach the goals I have put for myself.

Did you know that Steve Jobs once said, “I’m convinced that about half of what separates the successful entrepreneurs from the non-successful ones is pure perseverance.

I think he is very right, everyone can produce some sort of action towards a goal. People do it all the time. But the right action, constantly improving yourself, getting back to work even when work is tiring and boring…that's rare.

What really matters is staying with a project even after the initial enthusiasm and motivation wears off. This is where most people quit. Departing to chase another rush of the feel-good dopamine of starting something new, they leave behind another unfinished project....

It is not easy, but the real value lies in endurance.
