ETA…

I remember very well the first time I heard this word, I did not have a clue what it meant...Expected Time of Arrival...if only life was that easy.

The first one giving me his ETA, was an ex paratrooper. They have to be precise. And I can tell you when they are no longer in the military they are anything but precise :-)

Should we put an ETA for our dreams is what I wonder about sometimes. As I have some dreams I want to realize. What if we do not promise ourselves an ETA. When I was a dancer I gave myself an ETA to be dancing with NTD, Bejart,..., but I did not take into account that I would have a health issue ...making it impossible to reach my ETA. End of that dream.

During my studies as a Project Manager one of the things I was very severe on with my Project team was the delivery timings. But when you get something in time does not mean the quality is as it should be.

People talk a lot about time management but if there is anything we cannot mange it is definitely time. What we can manage is ourselves, we should be able to know what we are capable of doing and in what timing we can deliver what we need to deliver for others to be able to continue on the project. A good Project Manager is able to value the risk of bad quality and wrong timings and is able to make the team understand that they should at any time share their work with others.

Teamwork and working together is in that respect a concept that combines multiple individual competencies.

Discipline is also needed if you want to be able to give yourself an ETA. Many people believe that disciplined individuals lack freedom. For me it is the other way around. Only the ones that are really disciplined are truly free. The undisciplined are slaves of passions and desire.

So work on managing yourself as a day is 24 hours, period!
