Convention what? Yes indeed this was my title today and it will be tomorrow. Because the Conference I am moderating is the first European Innovation in Speaking Convention, where nothing is as it was before. So instead of the regular MC, Moderator, Host, I got a new name. It is an honor to be in charge of collecting impressions. And that is exactly what I like to do, listen, react, rephrase, elevate, make a puzzle of different building blocks.
I just love to work with people that dare to take risks and trust that things will be turning out just fine.
I love to see the capability of inspiring human beings able to share their thoughts and feelings with passion on a virtual stage without a direct link to the audience reactions. And trust me it is a challenge and you need to have a lot of self-confidence if you are not used to do TV. As one of the speakers said in a fire chat today, we all need to become TV host nowadays.
It is great to be the lighthouse of a Convention, to conduct the symphony that is going on by being well prepared but also by being versatile and agile and willing to go in places and thoughts that were unexpected. For that having a brain able to see that helicopter view helps a lot. It is about starting with a diverse but broad knowledge and most of all being curious and able to listen and make quick connections. I believe that this becomes more and more important as a moderator and an interviewer.
I love to listen to speakers that have that great desire to inspire and not only share their breakthrough concepts. We do not need more ‘speakers’, we need inspiring human beings with captivating personalities capable of sharing feelings, thoughts and sparkling ideas. Able to plant ideas in the audience hearts that will germinate and make them willing to do things differently.
Let’s learn about the different technologies, work with the best material, with the most professional teams, let’s be willing to scope our talks better and learn from the best. Let’s believe in mentorship and coaching, even if people tell you that you are talented, your talent will not be sufficient and do not forget you will have to be able to sell yourself and that might even be the toughest part.
So be willing to re-invent and trust that you are capable to design your own future.
