Entrepreneurship

I was wondering what to write about today when I newsletter fell into my mailbox. A sad message from a great couple that decided to launch a new project based on their passions, unfortunately they launched just before corona came into the world and I do not have to tell you what is actually happening in the world and for sure how many companies suffer especially in certain sectors.

They recently had to make up the balance and made the decision they will find a new owner. In her message she shared something that I think is very true : “it turns out that passion is subject to wear and tear if you put too much pressure on it”

After talking to many entrepreneurs I think indeed that for every successful entrepreneur passion plays a great role. In every interview I have with entrepreneurs they talk about the fact that you need to have a great passion for what you do to make it a success. We can even say that passion is a kind of fuel we need as entrepreneurs to keep going. I read in a Harvard Business review that after a study they noticed that there are 3 types of passion amongst entrepreneurs. Some want to invent, other want to found and the third category want to develop.

There is much more to read in that article by Eva de Mol, Melissa Cardon, and Svetlana N. Khapova as it actually talks about what happens in teams when we survey passion. “The researchers surveyed 107 tech teams participating in an accelerator program, and found that diversity of passion among individual team members — in terms of how passionate they are, and what they’re passionate about — had a negative relationship with team performance, due to conflicting emotions and identities within the team.”

We need passion, but what they say is that passion might also backfire.

Interesting thoughts that I will take with me while we continue writing our own entrepreneurs story, let's continue to #airyourviews
