I cannot believe my mailbox and my timelines: it is Black Friday all over. This becomes more present year after year. Habits from the States are more and more coming our way, when I was young no way we had Halloween, Thanksgiving, Black Friday…I only remember presents for St Valentine & St Nicolas.
I can only feel sad if I think about the fact that it will unfortunately be a Black Friday again in the different war zones all over the world.
What if we would just pay the regular price of all the products we buy today and send our ‘saved’ money from Black Friday to all the children that are hurt, physically and emotionally, not only for 1 Friday but for all the Fridays in their entire life.
It is hard to imagine that war is still part of our society. The effects of war include long-term physical and psychological harm to children and adults, as well as reduction in material and human capital. Death as a result of wars is simply the "tip of the iceberg".
I hope I am able to teach my children that violence is an answer for nothing, violence will not solve anything, but only break.
We need to teach our children how to communicate better. They need to become compassionate listeners, they need to understand that we all have habits, culture, education, feelings and emotions that make us see the world as we are. There is not 1 world, we all have our own vision, that is based on our truth. There is no such thing as the only 1 truth.
I also believe that many people in The Netherlands must feel that this Friday is black. Where is our world going, do we really not see that together with our differences we are stronger.
Maybe it is the rain, but some Fridays are more black than others. I make it an important thing in my life to be positive about everything. I believe we need to go for solutions instead of talking too long about the problem.
But how will we solve the problem of all these hurt children, all these human souls that are traumatized…
I hope by being who I am and by doing what I do I am able to move a stone in the right direction, the direction is not the one of extreme right and war.
