Coming back stronger

Off course I got injured during my professional career as a dancer. And coming back after an injury is hard when you are young and full of energy, eager to be on stage. It is not easy to deal with an injury as you tend to think about the “should haves” and “if only” scenario’s. But you need to stay positive and focus on new goals.

With a second injury in only 6 months I can see that I am older and no longer a professional athlete. Getting back in shape takes longer and it is extra depressing when you have to deal with another injury if the first one is not completely healed yet. Something I never did when I was younger is wondering if the universe was trying to tell me something with this second injury that I did not yet got after the first one, or maybe I wrongly interpreted what happened and draw the wrong conclusions.

After some weeks of thinking it over, while trying to walk normal again with the injured knee, that’s what I think: I did draw the wrong conclusion. Breaking my hand after a spectacular fall with my mountain bike was maybe not supposed to be a sign telling me I should stop setting crazy sports goals for myself. Actually it was preventing me from something else, that I did not realized. A pity.

I now see it as an opportunity to set new goals and leaving the old goals I have set last spring behind me forever.

For Miss Positive Sporty Spice (as I call myself sometimes) it have been heavy weeks I must admit. But an injured athlete always comes back stronger ,I can tell you that, and certainly mentally. The human being that is willing to kill my ambitions needs to get better prepared and wake up earlier 😊

Injuries leave you with doubt, yet most injuries can be overcome with knowledge, determination, patience and compassion. I started visualizing what I really want and the sky is the limit, some things do never change when you have the mind of an athlete.
