The CHRO balance

Yesterday I had the chance to moderate a very interesting round table with very inspiring CHRO-s, most of them in charge of very large companies, some private and some public. They all agreed upon the fact that HR is still the place where the heart of a company beats, however they are faced with quit some challenges trying to balance both employers and employees needs. After the intensive sanitary crisis which put so much pressure on almost everyone, we have the next challenge touching us human’s heavily in our souls that arrived very recently. We had a talented young girl that was 100% Ukrainian, around the table and even though she was born and raised in Belgium we could feel here pain and also her pride of how strong her family stands for their values, their culture, not willing to leave the country even though they have family waiting for them here.

We talked about creating workplaces where people can connect again, where they feel the purpose of the company but also about how data and technology can help us to lead people towards the ideal career path for them, helping them to reskill, upskill and cross skill. More than ever the role of the CHRO is on the forefront, with new cross-organizational goals and collaborative demands. It takes courage to see the perfect storm where transformation is needed. We need to accept that what some around the table called HR 3.0, is there to stay. This means that HR needs to be able to first convince the board that investing in technology for HR is necessary. Even though it is about human values, data will serve HR to become more human again. Therefore we need to trust that data and technology are tools and enablers for a better hybrid future.

We need to think about creating “the new workforce”, which is diverse and inclusive. Where real people connect with each other and with the purpose of the company. At the end of the day it is not about the tools, it is about the company culture that needs to evolve into a place where one accept that technology is there to help us grow into a sustainable place where balance will reign for every single individual person. Lifelong learning will be part of a career as the salary is part of the package.

Always happy and grateful to gain new insights as a moderator.
